Bread and Butter Pickles

Ingredients

  • 25 Cucumbers (3-5 inches in length)
  • 12 Onions
  • 1 Quart White Distilled Vinegar
  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 2 Tsp. Mustard Seed
  • 2 Tsp. Turmeric
  • 2 Tsp. Celery Seed

Instructions

  1. Wash and drain vegetables.
  2. Slice cucumbers and onions.
  3. Soak in salt solution (2 quarts ice water and 1/2 cup salt) for 3 hours.
  4. Mix vinegar, sugar and spices.
  5. Bring to a boil.
  6. Add cucumbers and onions just to heat through.
  7. Pack hot cucumbers into jars, leaving 1/2-inch head space.
  8. Cover with boiling hot liquid.
  9. Adjust lids.
  10. Process in boiling-water-bath for 15 minutes.
