Bread and Butter Pickles

Ingredients
  

  • 25 Cucumbers 3-5 inches in length
  • 12 Onions
  • 1 Quart White Distilled Vinegar
  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 2 Tsp. Mustard Seed
  • 2 Tsp. Turmeric
  • 2 Tsp. Celery Seed

Instructions
 

  • Wash and drain vegetables.
  • Slice cucumbers and onions.
  • Soak in salt solution (2 quarts ice water and 1/2 cup salt) for 3 hours.
  • Mix vinegar, sugar and spices.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Add cucumbers and onions just to heat through.
  • Pack hot cucumbers into jars, leaving 1/2-inch head space.
  • Cover with boiling hot liquid.
  • Adjust lids.
  • Process in boiling-water-bath for 15 minutes.
