Bread and Butter Pickles
Ingredients
- 25 Cucumbers 3-5 inches in length
- 12 Onions
- 1 Quart White Distilled Vinegar
- 2 Cups Sugar
- 2 Tsp. Mustard Seed
- 2 Tsp. Turmeric
- 2 Tsp. Celery Seed
Instructions
- Wash and drain vegetables.
- Slice cucumbers and onions.
- Soak in salt solution (2 quarts ice water and 1/2 cup salt) for 3 hours.
- Mix vinegar, sugar and spices.
- Bring to a boil.
- Add cucumbers and onions just to heat through.
- Pack hot cucumbers into jars, leaving 1/2-inch head space.
- Cover with boiling hot liquid.
- Adjust lids.
- Process in boiling-water-bath for 15 minutes.
